Embracing and Promoting Women’s Equity With isolved People Heroes on International Women's Day

Wednesday March 8th, 2023

Estimated time to read: 2 minutes

Each March we celebrate the achievements of women around the world through Women’s History Month. While the celebrations continue throughout the month, March 8th has been deemed International Women’s Day and is used not just to celebrate these achievements, but also acts as a call to action to accelerate women’s equality.

In an effort to create an inclusive world for women, 2023’s theme is #EmbraceEquity. This year, we asked our isolved People Heroes what this day means to them and how their organization embraces equity beyond the month of March. Here’s what they shared:

Question 1: Who has been your biggest professional inspiration?

“My biggest professional inspiration is Christina Van Houten. She was my boss when I was leading HCM product strategy and management at a vendor."

- Mary Quirk, Payroll & Benefits Coordinator at Friends Life Care Partners

“Our Chief Operations Officer Angella. She's brilliant, poised and kind, but remains a straightshooter. She's an inspiration of what a woman in leadership can look like. "

-Colleen Davis, Payroll and HR Systems Manager at Philadelphia Fight

“My Mother, corny right?  She was out of the job market for over 20 years. In that time a lot changed, but she embraced that change and made herself a very valuable part of her company.  So valuable that when she did retire, they begged her to come back and work part-time!  Her work ethic and sense of self has made me the person I am today.”

- Lisa Corrigan, HR Admin Assistant at Mountainview Nursing Home

“My mother. She was playing in the ‘boys’ arena of Deferred Compensation Consulting when there were few women in the profession. She knocked a few head during her career, which helped to make it easier for us today.”

-  Charlotte Neiner, HR Director at Arizona Tile, LLC

Question 2: How do you show support to other women and encourage them to pursue their leadership goals?

“I try to be friendly with everyone. I really try to listen when they talk so I can learn more and really find their interests. I also try to encourage and be happy for them when something happens in their life.”

-Connie Woody, Payroll Specialist at Brock Insurance Agency, Inc. / Oakbridge Insurance

“I encourage them by uplifting and honoring them.  Each day, I tell them to do better today than yesterday. Speak it into existence, all your hard work will pay off!”

- Crystal Dale, Executive Housekeeping Manager at Holiday Inn Express

Question 3: How does your company support women's equality to promote equity?

“We are fortunate to work for a company that understands we have families.  They are great about allowing us to go to school parties and events our children are involved in during working hours. “

-Connie Woody, Payroll Specialist at Brock Insurance Agency, Inc. / Oakbridge Insurance

“About 80 percent of our workforce is female. We pay fair wages for all employees and encourage our staff to educate themselves and move to better more fulfilling positions in our company.”

- Lisa Corrigan, HR Admin Assistant at Mountainview Nursing Home

“Our overall workforce, and specifically our C-suite, is majority women including our CEO, COO and CMO. Women are regularly promoted in our organization and maternity leave/having a family does not hinder advancement in any way.“

- Colleen Davis, Payroll and HR Systems Manager at Philadelphia Fight
